ok, so here is the post on the 2nd part of the rsp camp :D

went to vs for the day. we were divided into 4 groups and hazel, chelsea and i were in ML1. First, we had the lesson on gamelan music and we learnt how to play Timang Burung and i played 3 different instruments..saron barung, saron panerus (peking), and saron demung. they all belonged in the saron family and they are play the melody of the tune. and timang burung is supposed to be a rather well-known song and its played over and over again as the malays danced their malay dance or even kuda kepang.

next we had the wayang kulit-making workshop where we designed our own wayang kulit. i wanted to draw a girl, but halfway, it turned out looking more like a witch and thats what it became until i drew its hat and maked it looked like a farmer. so the girl "evolved" into a witch and finally a farmer ._.

for lunch we had this Malay dish that was only served during special occassions like weddings (sorry i dont know what it is called) where a group of about 4 or 5 people would share one plate. we ate the same dish but with slightly different ingredients in school last time too. Ruoxi, Chelsea, Hazel and I shared one plate (there was supposed to be 5 people to 1 plate but we didn't want to be separated and anyway, we were very sure we could finish)

this time, the ingredients include:

2 large servings of rice
potatoes
vegetable with bean sprout
chicken served with gravy
spicy bean curd
etc.

within 10 minutes, we finished almost all of it while the 2 groups sitting beside us (each with 5 people) barely ate any. :DD

well, we didn't know about this until that day itself, but the 4 groups we were divided into had to put up a performance with another group (as in 2 groups put up one performance). thus, after lunch ML1 and ML3 went to the auditorium to prepare. We were then told that we would be putting up a wayang kulit performance with music accompanying the play. Chelsea, Hazel and I was in the group in charged of providing the background music and I played the Saron Barung together with Hazel while Chelsea played the Saron Wayangan. we learnt a new song called Sampak that was supposedly a versatile tune as it could be played quickly and be accompaniment for a fighting scene or it can be played slowly to be music accompaniment for a suspense-filled scene.

After break, we went to this room to view the ML2 and BI groups performance. It was something like a Wayang Golek show (if i am not wrong) and there was music accompaniment too. The story was narrated in Bahasa Indonesia which was why I could not really catch what the narrator was saying but the main thing was that the bad guy died from drinking milk that contained melamine.

Then it was our turn to perform. The story was that this hero's wife was kidnapped by the bad guy and the hero went to save her. It's actually rather funny. (: and while the story was being acted out using the wayang kulits we made, we played the music to accompany the story (:

After that, it was time for each school to perform an item. VS performed first and they played a song with the angklungs. Next was ACSI who sang aMalay song. After that was RI and they sang Malay songs too. Last but not least it was our turn! We danced a traditional Malay dance and we were laughing our heads off throughout (:

Yup,so thats all for the post on the 2nd part of the RSP cultural camp.
