hello (: im back (:
rsp camp's over..
on fri, we went to pulau ubin for the 1st part of the camp.
we were divided into a few groups and i was in Group C together with Chelsea and Hazel (:
the first activity that my group had was the ketupat weaving "lesson". since we tried it once in school last time, it was slightly easier and the man also explained it in a simpler way. though i didn't manage to do the whole thing, i reached stage 3, which the woman said it was very good (:
next, we went to cook roti jala. it looked a bit like an omelette, though (: all of us had a turn at cooking it and it was very easy but fun. and the best part was that we got to eat them (:
the next activity was batik painting. it was new to me as i have only heard of it before. but it was really fun and interesting. first, we chose which template we want, put it below the wooden frame from which the "cloth" was stapled on. then we used a 2B pencil to outline it before using melted wax to go over the pencil lines. it was a bit scary to outline using the melted wax and some of us ruin our artwork cos we spilled the wax :( next, we had to paint the "cloth".
the whole procedure was very fun and i love my batik painting (:
the last activity we had was to go to chek jawa (only the visitor house :( ) to learn more about malay music and dance. this man started holding porcelain (?) plates and started dancing with it, holding it upside down at times but they did not drop down. also, he was so graceful in his dance, which none of the people who tried the dance achieved. he also introduced us to some instruments which some of us tried to play. next, he talked about the kuda kepang and he chose chelsea, me and some other boys and girls to dance. he demonstrated the steps to us and although it seemed easy, i could not remember the steps. but it was a good experience to try something that i probably would not get the chance to try again (beside the fact that the pain in my knees were hurting me a lot)
the 2nd part of the camp will be posted another day and so will the photos (:
